Lacquer is a single-location nail salon at 210 Guadalupe Street, between 2nd and 3rd Streets in the 2nd Street District. It was founded by Carla Hatler, who first developed the idea in 2012 and opened the downtown salon in March 2015. Before starting the business, Hatler worked in advertising management and specialized in launching new brands. The salon is woman-owned and is a member of the Female Founder Collective.

The salon began offering soakless manicures and pedicures in 2018, following a public water safety issue in Austin. Instead of soaking hands or feet, clients receive steamed hot towels. The salon says it was the first in Austin to offer this service. Staff are licensed nail technicians, and the salon describes their training as going beyond state licensing requirements in Safe Salon practices and soakless methods.

The menu is organized into Essential and Signature levels for manicures and pedicures. Essential care includes a warm towel cleanse, cuticle and callus care and a massage. Signature care adds a sugar and salt scrub and a hydrating lotion. Same-time manicure and pedicure appointments are available. Gel and ultra polish are cured under LED lamps, and Dazzle Dry ultra polish dries without a lamp in about five minutes. Other services include IBX strengthening manicures, CND PlexiGel gel overlays, Gel-X soft gel full sets, French, half moon and foil nail art, custom nail art and add-on removals for gel, builder gel, Gel-X and dip powder. The salon does not remove acrylic or hard gel and does not offer those services or dip powder application.

Visits are by appointment, and booking ahead is advised. Opening hours run Monday through Friday, 9am to 7pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 6pm, though these may change. Guests can leave a car for up to two hours at the 2nd Street Garage, located at 211 San Antonio Street, and salon visits qualify for validated parking there. Gift cards come in set amounts or in any custom value. Cancelling or moving an appointment less than four hours before it starts incurs a charge of half the booked service, and a missed appointment without notice is charged the full service price.

Lacquer centers its work on soakless services and sanitation: staff wear nitrile gloves for every service, files and buffers are single use, metal tools are sterilized in a medical-grade autoclave after each use, and hard surfaces are cleaned with a hospital-grade EPA disinfectant. The salon will not perform services on clients with medically diagnosed contagious conditions or conditions that could put others at risk.
