Kona Kai San Diego sits on 11 acres of tropical gardens on Shelter Island, with views of the marina and San Diego Bay. The resort describes itself as an island escape in the heart of San Diego and as a local landmark since the 1950s that has hosted well-known guests.
SpaTerre is a 7,020 square-foot spa with six treatment rooms, heated tables and a couples suite that includes a soak tub for two and a couples shower. Before or after a treatment, guests can rest in a relaxation room with organic teas and snacks or use a eucalyptus steam room, and treatments include access to the resort pool and jacuzzi. The spa is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and welcomes members of the public as well as hotel guests. Self-parking is complimentary, and the locker rooms are stocked with toiletries.
Massages can be booked in the private beach cabanas, and private yoga and meditation sessions are available with advance notice. Treatments change with the seasons, and current spa specials are posted on the website. Spa appointments can be booked online, by phone or by email.
Several of the packages add other resort amenities to spa time. The Empowerment Lunch includes a choice of a 50-minute Noble Massage or Tropical Refresher Facial, a takeaway lunch from The Galley Marketplace, and parking and pool access, and it costs $215 Monday through Thursday or $235 on Friday. The Local Insider package covers a resort day pass and a 50-minute Noble House Massage for two people, and a state-issued ID is required at check-in.
Spa treatments are drawn from Indonesian, Fijian and Thai traditions, and the spa uses Pure Fiji body care.
Tropical gardens and bay views frame the resort, with a poolside bar, a waterfront restaurant and a marina alongside.
