King Spa opened its first location in New Jersey in 2001. Its founder, Byung T. Kim, known as Donald, moved from South Korea to the United States in the 1970s. The website describes the business as the first Korean jjimjilbang in the U.S. and calls the Virginia location the premier Korean day spa in the state, both as its own claims. It reports a guest rating of 4.4 out of 5 from more than 2,600 reviews, though different pages give different review counts.

About

The Chantilly building spans three floors, with elevator access to all of them. Its mineral and themed rooms include Amethyst Crystal Salt, Base Rock, Charcoal, Gold, Hinoki + Ion, Ice, Rock Salt and Yellow Mud rooms, plus a Bul Ga Ma sauna and a Bul Han Jing Mak sauna. The gender-segregated Korean bathhouse has hot tubs, steam rooms and cold plunge pools; visiting it is optional, and spa uniforms are provided in other areas.

A day pass covers the locker and steam rooms, saunas, pools, jacuzzis, cold plunge pool, media room and indoor lounges, and includes a spa uniform, towels and toiletries. Admission does not cover treatments, products, food or beverages. Treatments are booked on site rather than online: most, including facials, massages, men's scrubs and couples treatments, are booked at the reservation kiosk on the second floor, while women's body scrubs and V-steam are booked at the kiosk in the women's locker room. Guests are advised to arrive early to get a preferred time, and to soak in the hot tubs for at least 15 minutes before a body scrub. An 18% gratuity is added at checkout and can be adjusted.

A restaurant and drink bar on site serve Korean dishes and other cuisines, house-made juices and smoothies, and guests may relax in lounge areas after treatments. The site advises that pregnant guests not visit, because the pools and rooms run from 94 to 200 degrees.

The stated mission is to provide a relaxing spa environment that carries on Korean traditions of holistic healing.
