Kids Kuts

Kids Kuts has been serving families in North County, San Diego since 1985. Sheri Rey bought the salon in 1998 after the original owner decided to sell, and she had been one of its stylists before taking it over. The salon is run as a family-oriented business, and it welcomes children of all ages as well as adults.

The space is bright and colorful, with an ocean theme painted on the walls. Children have a Tiki-Hut playhouse, Disney movies on flat screen TVs, an electric train that runs overhead, an Xbox 360, handheld DX games, and toys and books to keep them occupied. Walk-ins are welcome on a first come, first served basis, and the salon also takes scheduled appointments by phone.

The salon works with children with special needs and offers first haircuts for toddlers, including a first haircut certificate with a lock of hair. Its children's menu covers basic and designer cuts, specialty braids, feathers, hair tinsel, punk hair coloring, up-dos for any occasion and chlorine treatments. The team says it can create just about any style or treatment a client or child asks for. For adults, the salon offers women's designer cuts, color, highlights, perms, Brazilian Blowout, up-dos, styling for weddings and proms, men's haircuts, and men's facial and neck hair trimming.

The salon carries organic shampoos and conditioners for children, including the Original Sprouts line, and Fairy Tales Repel Shampoo and Creme Conditioner, which uses organic essential oils and is meant to help repel lice and other insects. It also carries Circle of Friends products, which are not organic, and offers additional products for removing lice. The salon describes its children's products as the highest-quality organic shampoos and conditioners for children.
