About

KAIZEN Electrolysis is owned by Grace Green and is located in Suite 404 at 1910 First Street in Highland Park. The name comes from the Japanese word kaizen, which the business reads as change for the better.

Electrolysis works by guiding a fine probe into each hair follicle and sending a small current through it to disable the cells that grow hair. The business describes a gradual approach, with treatments repeated across sessions aimed at continued reduction until permanent removal is reached. The number of visits depends on hair growth pattern, coarseness and growth rate, and the business says most people see results after a few treatments.

New clients can book a free 45-minute consultation through the online scheduler, by phone or by text. The visit covers how the method works, how often to come in, skin care between sessions and any questions, and a small hair sample may be removed. Existing clients use a separate online scheduler.

Treatment is available for eyebrows, upper lip, chin, neck, ear lobes, shoulders, breasts, back, chest, underarms, arms, bikini, legs, toes and abdomen. The studio sees men, women, teens and transgender clients, and the method works on straight, wavy and curly hair in every color, including grey and dyed hair. Clients with a low tolerance for pain can ask about a numbing cream containing lidocaine and prilocaine.

Hair needs to be short enough to treat, so clients are asked not to pluck, tweeze, wax, thread or sugar beforehand. Drinking extra water and avoiding caffeine and stimulants before a visit is recommended, since the skin responds best when well hydrated. Afterward the area should stay clean and dry for 24 hours, without heavy creams, lotions or makeup, and with no heavy exercise that causes sweating. Clients are also advised to limit sun exposure for 24 to 48 hours around treatment and to wear a high-SPF mineral sunscreen daily. Most clients notice minor redness and irritation that usually settles within a few hours.

The business uses repeated, gradual sessions aimed at continued reduction in hair growth until permanent removal is achieved.
