K Studio was opened by Kimberly Chong after several years of working as a stylist. It operates from a suite inside Sola Salons on El Camino Real in Santa Clara, and Kimberly runs it as her own business.

Booking is handled by hand through email rather than an online scheduling system. New clients are asked before a first visit to share their hair history from the past three to five years, current photos of their hair taken in natural light, inspiration photos, and their availability, so Kimberly can plan the appointment around what they want.

The studio states that its goal is for each client to leave knowing how to maintain their hair at home. Clients who want to understand their own hair, not just leave with a new style, are the ones the studio is set up for. Cancellation terms are clear: notice of at least 48 hours avoids a fee, while a cancellation made within 48 hours of the appointment is charged 50% of the service cost.
