The salon was started in 1984 by Kathy Thalman and is now owned by her daughter, Holly. It describes itself as having served the San Antonio area for more than 40 years and as the second Aveda salon in Texas. The Schertz location is one of three.

Care is built around Aveda's standards for plant-based products, with equal attention to guest care, customer service and environmental responsibility. Every stylist completes the salon's Apprenticeship Program, and the salon arranges continuing education with industry educators. Studio Stylists are entry-level stylists who have finished the intensive training program and apprenticed with an experienced stylist, while Elite Master Stylists have been with the salon for at least 10 years. A team-based service program coordinates work between team members during a visit.

Booking is recommended in advance. New guests can book online, as can guests who have not visited in more than six months, and online requests stay pending until the salon confirms them. The guest services team can book at any of the three locations. The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday. It is a non-tipping salon, and a credit card processing fee applies, with cash and gift cards suggested as alternatives. Guests who are unhappy with a service are asked to say so right away so it can be corrected. Children should be closely supervised and kept out of service areas.

New color clients need a complimentary consultation before their first appointment and are not seen on Saturdays without one. A $100 deposit secures a color appointment and is non-refundable for no-shows or cancellations within 48 hours. One reschedule is allowed with at least 48 hours' notice given by phone. Color starts at $90 with a Junior or Senior-Elite stylist, and the salon notes transformational color is priced per hour and may take two to three visits.

Ultraceuticals facials are customized skin treatments that use ultrasound and massage, and a series of three is generally recommended. Ultraceuticals was founded in 1998 by Dr. Geoffrey Heber and is formulated and owned in Australia. According to the brand's page, it is an award-winning cosmeceutical line that is not animal tested. Clients should stop using retinol products 48 hours before a Performance Facial and wait 72 hours after injectables before a facial. The salon also invites models for classes at a reduced service price, requested by email or a form at any location.

Works within Aveda's standards for natural, plant-based products, and treats guest care, service and environmental stewardship as part of the same commitment.
