Treatments are booked by the hour, and prepaid packages of 4, 7 or 10 hours are discounted by 5, 7 or 10 percent. In San Diego, a single treatment starts at $55 for 15 minutes and reaches $130 for an hour; in McKinney, it starts at $50 for 15 minutes and reaches the same $130 for an hour. Genitals treatments and their packages are priced separately, and are slightly higher at both locations.
New clients can book a standalone consultation, which is $45 in San Diego and $40 in McKinney. It includes a health history review, an explanation of how electrolysis works and a five-minute sample treatment. Clients who want to start right away can book a combined visit with a $25 consultation fee in San Diego or $20 in McKinney, plus a treatment fee that falls between $55 and $80 in San Diego and between $50 and $75 in McKinney. The first day of treatment runs 15 to 30 minutes so the practitioner can gauge skin reaction and pain tolerance. A deposit is taken when booking a first appointment, $45 in San Diego and $25 in McKinney, with the balance paid on the day of treatment. Returning clients who have been away from treatment for three months pay a deposit to rebook.
The practice uses an xCell Pur 27.12 MHz Apilus machine with a touch screen and personalized treatment programs. Methods offered are high-frequency short wave (thermolysis), galvanic current, and a blend of the two. Cataphoresis, which applies an ionizable product with a roller, can be added after electrolysis to reduce redness and soothe the area. The salon states that electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method approved by the FDA and the AMA, that its permanency rate is over 93 percent of people treated worldwide, and that it has been used for unwanted hair removal since 1875. Electrolysis can be performed over tattoos without affecting the design. Hairy moles are treated only with a note from the client's healthcare provider confirming the mole is a typical hairy nevus and safe to treat.
Before a visit, clients are asked to drink at least 32 ounces of water the day before, avoid caffeine and alcohol, arrive five to ten minutes early, and skip lotions, oils, deodorant and makeup on the area. After underarm treatment, deodorant is avoided for at least 48 hours; after facial treatment, makeup is avoided for at least 24 hours. Redness, scabs and mild swelling are described as normal, and the area should be kept clean, dry and out of the sun. Treatment time beyond the scheduled time is charged at $2 per minute, and cancellations made less than 48 hours ahead are charged the full amount.
Treatment programs are personalized on the xCell Pur machine, with a choice of thermolysis, galvanic current or a blend, and a consultation is available before the first treatment.
