Jazz'd Up sits in Encanto, in the southeast part of San Diego, a short drive from Caribbean Taste and close to the Black Arts & Culture District. The salon relocated to Latimer Street from an earlier spot on University Avenue. Its client base reaches into Chula Vista, National City, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, El Cajon and other areas of southeastern San Diego. Jazzmin Austin, who founded the business, incorporated Jazz'd Up Inc. in 2015.

Booking is by appointment only. New clients complete a 15-minute virtual or phone consultation, which costs $50 and is recommended before a first service. Appointments can be booked up to 90 days ahead, and because times are limited, the salon recommends booking early. Estimates are requested by text or email with a photo of natural hair and the style you want, and replies can take up to 48 hours. A deposit secures every appointment and is applied to the final price. Changes or cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and no-call/no-show appointments, forfeit the deposit; with 24 hours' notice, a client may reschedule once with the deposit carried over. Deposits are non-transferable and non-refundable, except that the client is refunded if the salon cancels. Phone support is available Monday to Friday, 10 am to 3 pm, at 619-354-0905.

Much of the work centers on protective styling. Braids come in several forms, including knotless, medium and large box braids, cornrows, French braids, individual plaits and crochet braids, and there are dreadlock retwists in interlock or crochet styles. For longer wear, the salon installs traditional, partial and beaded row sew-ins, microlinks, and lace closure and lace frontal installs, and it sells custom lace wigs made with hair attached individually.

The salon also offers color, relaxers, natural hair services, cuts for adults and teens, and a VIP Crown Transformation that combines extensions, custom color, a trim, a take-home haircare kit and a follow-up check-in. Bridal services include on-site styling, bridal braiding, updos and glam waves, and a bridal group session with a trial included. Classes cover beginner braiding, basic haircare for faster growth, wig making and weaving, and a mommy-and-me styling workshop.
