JA Studios was created in 2015 by Jennifer Albert. In 2017 the business added brand consulting and independent artist management. Alongside hair services, it lists event planning, pop-up collaborations and shop-conscious beauty, and it offers concierge hair reservations across New York.

The current pop-up is in Suite 314 at MY SALON Suite, 12 W 48th Street on the third floor, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues near Rockefeller Center. Visitors go through the ground floor lobby, take the elevator to the third floor, and call Suite 314 from the lobby dialpad. Everything is by appointment. Consultations and meetings are booked as their own appointment types, and hair services are booked under the Hair category. A 50% deposit is due to make a reservation, financial arrangements are settled before arrival, and cancellations need at least one week's notice before the scheduled arrival in NYC.

Customized hair extensions are the main focus. They are applied by fusion, with synthetic keratin bonded strand by strand. Padding for thickness takes around an hour, and a full lengthening and thickening service takes approximately two to three hours. Extensions can be worn for three to four months depending on hair type, with a minimum of three months advised for fragile hair. A check-up is generally recommended two weeks after the first application. Care involves daily brushing at the roots and a sulfate-free shampoo, with heavy moisturizers and oil-based products kept away from the root. Ombre extensions can also be used to highlight existing color without bleach.

The Pearl Club loyalty program rewards clients who refer new hair extension clients, with discounts that step up from one referral to three, and VIP status for clients who reach it. The JA Essence Beauty Collection is a line of handcrafted self-care, travel and home products, including a Travel Collection of small bottles. According to the brand, the products are made with organic ingredients and organic essential oils and use recycled packaging. The business also lists JA Salon 30A, which offers hair and beauty wellness services in the 30A community, and a second New York address on Grand Street.
