In 2013 it relocated to a larger space in Ward Plaza in Kakaako, and a March 2018 news item reported it opening at Anaha in Ward Village. A 2010 article named Joe Randazzo as co-owner, responsible for the technical and creative work, with Gary Casupang managing operations. A 2013 article later called J Salon one of Honolulu's main attractions. The salon says it aims to go beyond clients' expectations and build lasting relationships, with hair at the center of its work. Co-owner Gary Casupang credits much of the salon's success to ongoing in-house education. Stylists attend weekly classes taught by educators, where they practice on live models, and the salon commits to advanced training for its team. The salon says ELLE Magazine listed it among the Top 100 Salons in the U.S. in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and a 2011 article described it as the only Hawaii salon ranked in that list. A visit starts with an online booking that shows real-time availability. Appointments are secured with a credit card, and changes need 24 hours' notice; a fee of half the reserved services applies to missed, cancelled or late-changed appointments. Clients are asked to arrive on time and to mention any sensitivities or allergies to their provider. Stylists are placed in levels from Level 1 through Level 5, plus Advanced, based on each person's training, experience and ongoing development. Cuts, color and conditioning are customized to each client's needs.
