About

Izba Spa has been operating since 1995 and sits on the lower level of a building at 1441 York Street, shared with a healing arts community that includes the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Manton Massage Clinic. Guests head down the stairs, turn left halfway down, and follow the signs through a winding hallway to reception.

Treatment rooms are private and styled after Russian countryside log cabins. Each has a massage space, a banya, a hot tub and a shower. Filtered water, towels, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided, and herbal tea and fresh fruit are served in the lobby after each treatment. Guests may wear a swimsuit or not, and are draped with towels during massage and banya when a therapist is present.

The banya is a steam session for two. A therapist ladles water and essential oils over hot rocks, brushes and taps the body with bundles of oak or birch leaves, applies honey, and finishes with a cool bucket of water. Heat sessions run 10 to 15 minutes depending on the guest's tolerance, with 15 minutes as the maximum. Guests who find the heat hard can have the window opened and receive a cold wet cloth and water. The business says its banya treatments are home style rather than communal, and that regular banya sessions can support well-being and immune function.

The hot tubs are sanitized with ultraviolet light and hydrogen peroxide rather than chlorine. They are drained, cleaned and refilled two to three times a week, and peroxide levels are checked daily.

Appointments are requested by email at izbadenver@gmail.com, including a name, phone or text number, the session wanted, single or couples, and preferred dates. Email is the quickest route to a reply. Booking time includes 15 extra minutes per appointment for undressing, showering and dressing. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, and late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full treatment cost to the card on file. Treatment hours are daily from 10am to 6pm. Rates may change without notice, and gratuities are optional. Gift certificates can be bought by phone, by email (the preferred way) or in person for a physical card, and must be presented at booking and at the appointment to be used as payment. Parking is available in the lot on the south side of the building for $1 per hour, with free street parking on York Street and metered parking on Colfax Avenue.

Izba Spa combines the Russian banya with therapeutic massage and holistic therapies, aiming to support health, rehabilitation and stress reduction.
