The salon is run by owner and stylist Aissatou Barry, who handles the styling herself. Services are grouped into braids, children's styles, locs and twists, and the price list runs from $60 for simpler styles up to $200 for bomb twists.

Booking requires a non-refundable $20 deposit, which is counted toward the total price. Appointments typically take about two to four hours depending on the style, so clients are asked to arrive at least five minutes early. If an appointment runs 15 minutes late, the salon may move it to another time. Well-behaved children are welcome, and they are asked to avoid running, climbing on chairs and opening drawers.

Cancellations or changes made at least one business day ahead are requested. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are charged 50% of the service fee, and missed appointments are charged the full service fee. Adjustments and tweaks are included for one week after the service. Refunds are not offered on services performed, because of the artistic nature of the work. Payment is accepted by Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and cash; checks are not accepted. The salon is open Monday to Sunday, 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, and can be reached at (202) 215-7404.

The salon works on a custom basis, with each style planned around the client's hair and what they want from the braids.
