About

Institute of Modern Beauty trains people for careers in skincare and beauty, with its core offering being a 20-week Esthetics Program. The school describes itself as a premier esthetics and advanced esthetics school for skincare professionals, and says its programs are state-approved, though specific state requirements vary. Its specialties are presented as some of the fastest-growing areas in beauty and wellness.

The Esthetics Program combines online theory with a weekly in-lab session led by an instructor. Before students begin hands-on work, they complete coursework on sanitation and infection prevention, state rules and regulations, skin structure and function, skin assessment, and professional conduct. Practical training covers customized facials, hair removal by wax, makeup, lash and brow care, client intake, knowledge of retail products, and the basics of preparing to operate a business. Students also prepare for the state board exam. Tuition is $10,500 and covers advanced instruction in waxing, lash extensions, lash lifting and tinting, brow lamination, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, chemical peels, and microneedling.

Shorter certification courses are offered alongside the full program. The Chemical Peel Certification Course is a 3-day, 24-hour program costing $600 that awards a State-Recognized Chemical Peel Certification and a PCA Skin Chemical Peel Certification. The Microneedling Certification Course is a one-day, 6-hour course costing $600 that includes certification, and all materials are provided in class. The Classic and Volume Eyelash Extension Certifications each cost $350 and run about 8 hours for the classic course; students may take them separately or together. The Volume course is designed for artists who already have a foundation.

Advanced courses for licensed professionals cover permanent makeup, cosmetic injectables, manual exfoliation, and eyelash extensions. The Advanced Esthetics Program is designed for licensed estheticians and cosmetologists. Some advanced certifications require an esthetics or healthcare license depending on the course and state. Students practice on family and friends who come in as models for complimentary services, and certification courses include live demonstrations, hands-on practice, instructor coaching, and guided learning.

Graduates go on to work in medical spas, day spas, dermatology practices, plastic surgery centers, wellness clinics, lash and brow studios, permanent makeup studios, or self-run businesses. The program provides career guidance, professional development support, and access to industry contacts, but it does not guarantee employment.

Classes are kept small and combine online theory with weekly in-person labs, with instructors described as working professionals who bring real industry experience into the classroom.
