HAWTHORNE

Hawthorne is a shared studio at 100 West 23rd Street in New York, which the business describes as an urban sanctuary. Garrett Bryant founded it in 2018 to grow his own studio into an inclusive, collaborative space.

Rather than one team under one brand, the studio is home to independent collaborators whom the business describes as master stylists, colorists and makers. Each builds their own clientele, brand and voice while sharing the room. The founder's stated vision is community over competition.

Clients book with the individual collaborator they want. The studio asks visitors to be mindful of the shared space and the energy of the room when they arrive for appointments. The atmosphere is relaxed and thoughtfully put together, and the coffee and espresso cups were made by a local independent artist.

The space is also rented to collaborators. According to the studio, full-time rental with 24/7 access is $4000 per month, with lower monthly rates for three to six days a week, starting at $2300 per month. A flexible or freelance rate of $300 per day is also available, and the studio can be booked for private events starting at $2500 per day.
