The academy's history is tied to the Harrold family. J. Michael Harrold came from the third generation of his family to work in cosmetology, was associated with the school from 1974, and bought it from his father in 1986. He studied in the United States and Europe and trained under several international champions. He died in 2002. Patty Harrold has run the academy since then and is its current owner, president and chief executive officer, and also serves as director of financial aid.

The cosmetology program is 1500 clock hours and follows the Milady's Standard: Cosmetology curriculum. It covers haircutting and styling, hair color and texture services such as perms, manicures, pedicures, facials, makeup, chemical services and scalp treatments, with sanitation and state rules included. Students move from mannequins to live models, and manicures, pedicures, facials, makeup and scalp treatments must be done on live models. The esthetics program is 700 clock hours. Students complete 90 classroom hours before working on customers, then study skin care, facials, waxing and tweezing, makeup, skin analysis, machinery, skin chemistry, anatomy and salon management. Acne treatments, makeup, advanced techniques and waxing are performed on live models.

Clients who book salon services are seen by students working under instructor supervision at both campuses. Prices are listed by campus, and at Avon some services cost less on Tuesday through Friday or for seniors than on regular days or Saturdays. Enrollment inquiries are handled by a single number for both campuses. The school offers financial aid guidance and encourages all students to apply for federal aid through the FAFSA. Graduates receive a diploma or certificate and an official transcript of clock hours. According to the school, 100% of current and 2022 students had passed the licensure exam, with a 77.00% graduation rate and a 72.97% placement rate.
