Hair Studio began as a small salon in January 2008, opened by an owner who had already worked as a hairdresser in Port Washington for more than 20 years. Over time the salon moved through several spots along Main Street, spent nine years in Baxter Estates, and in November 2017 relocated to a site across from the Port Washington LIRR station.

The salon's most recent location at Inspiration Wharf was sold, and the owner now works independently at Aria Hair Salon, a family-owned and family-run salon. The stated aim is a personal experience where clients feel comfortable.

Each visit starts with a consultation to settle on a cut or color that fits the client's day-to-day life. Services cover haircuts for men, women and children, re-texturizing treatments such as keratin smoothing, bond building conditioning and permanent waves, and blow and formal styling. Stylists practice updos, braids, color and cuts on mannequins.

The salon offers Get Buzzed, a free professional buzz cut given at the client's home for people undergoing chemotherapy who are facing hair loss. Existing clients on Tuesdays can also bring a friend who has never been to Hair Studio; both receive two cuts or colors for the price of one. Pricing is not published, so clients are asked to call for quotes. Payment is accepted by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Venmo, Zelle and cash.

The salon begins every service with a consultation so the style or color matches how the client lives, with the aim of a personal, comfortable visit.
