HAIR Los Angeles grew out of founder Daniel Moon's plan to build his practice as an independent color artist. The salon describes itself as a salon with a point of view and says it is LA's premiere destination for color. Architectural Digest published a feature on its Arts District space on March 10, 2023, and the salon says it has been featured in Vogue.

The salon describes its aim as an exclusive experience grounded in trust and privacy. It presents itself as a cultural gathering place, a contemporary version of the traditional salon where beauty meets fashion, art, music and film. Its work is built around looks suited to each client's individuality and lifestyle. According to the salon, its strongest areas are blondes, color corrections, creative color and considered cuts. The studio operates as a collaborative workspace for stylists and has attracted stylists from other countries. Many of its stylists previously worked in film, video or editorial.

Bookings can be made by phone or text at 310-388-1979, or through the online booking page for individual appointments and gift cards. The salon is open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM. First-time clients are asked to describe their hair history and the look they want, so the first visit can be planned in advance. Visitors should wear clothing that can take color or lightener, and a protective cape is supplied. Color corrections and full bleach-outs include a required 20% service charge, which is part of the total quote confirmed at booking. Cancellations or changes made less than 24 hours ahead are charged 50% of the service cost. House calls are available for most services and are arranged directly with the salon.
