About

Hair Cult opened in 1988 under owner Laurie Michelson. The salon says it was the first Aveda Concept Salon to open in Hoboken, in 1989. In 1999 it added Marma Day Spa, an Aveda Concept Spa offering massages, facials and body wraps.

The business describes its mission as bringing beauty, wellness and care for the environment together. According to the salon, it has operated for more than 25 years, and its professionals hold multiple certifications and keep up with continuing education.

A visit usually begins with a consultation with your stylist. Cuts include a shampoo and conditioning treatment, and an eyebrow trim can be added to any service. First-time clients complete a new client intake form and a consultation before booking. A complimentary in-person consultation is recommended before color appointments to confirm timing and cost. Corrective color requires a consultation first and may take two to three visits to reach the desired result while the hair is rebuilt.

Appointments can be booked by phone or online, and gift cards are sold. A credit card is needed to hold a booking. Changes or cancellations made at least 24 hours ahead are free, while later cancellations are charged the full booking price. Adjustments to a cut or color are made at no charge within 14 days of the appointment. Cash and major credit cards are accepted, though gratuities cannot be added on a credit card. Street parking is available, and a municipal lot is located at 12th and Hudson. Clients can also join Aveda Plus Rewards during a visit.

Hair Cult's philosophy treats beauty, wellness and environmental care as connected, and its color and hair care are built on Aveda products.
