Hair by Shelsea

Hair by Shelsea is a small storefront salon in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where owner and stylist Shelsea Horn does the color and lightening work herself. The focus is on the longevity and health of the hair, and on dimensional color for women who want a lived-in look.

Services are sold as packages rather than a la carte. The Maintenance Package fills the gap between full or partial lightening visits and includes grey touch-ups, face frame highlights, toning or root shadowing, and a trim. Partial and Full Lightening Packages cover balayage, highlights, foilyage and babylights, with a haircut and toner. Refresh Color, Multidimensional Color, Signature and Ultimate Transformation cover base color, dimensional highlights and longer full-service appointments.

New guests complete a New Guest Application before booking, and Shelsea emails whether she is a good fit. Initial appointments take three to four hours and typically run about $400 to $515. A card is kept on file through the booking software, and nothing is charged when the first appointment is booked. The salon does not accept color correction clients, including those with box color or henna on their hair.

Retail products can be exchanged within seven days for full retail credit, and damaged pump products are replaced within 14 days. Concerns about a cut or color reported within seven days are addressed at no charge, though refunds are not given. Late arrivals are not guaranteed and may receive only available extra time or be treated as cancellations. Small children are not permitted in the salon. Scheduling questions go to email, since reminder texts cannot be answered, and a text-only line is available for last-minute needs.

Each color is custom blended for the client after a short goal discussion of five to ten minutes, taking skin tone and maintenance goals into account.
