Grondin's College of Cosmetology has served Lapeer County since 1980 and was formerly known as Hairacy College of Cosmetology before taking its current name. The Grondin family's involvement in the hair industry began in the home of Elizabeth Liz Grondin in Dryden, Michigan. The school is owned by Paul N. Grondin, Inc., where Paul N. Grondin serves as owner and CEO; the company also operates fifteen hair centers across southeast Michigan.
The school offers three full-time programs: a 1500-hour, 46-week cosmetology course covering haircutting, styling, coloring, perming, facials, skin care, manicures, and pedicures; a 750-hour, 23-week esthetics course covering skin analysis, facials and exfoliation, hair removal, and makeup; and a 600-hour, 19-week nail technology program covering basic and spa manicures and pedicures, sculpted nails, wraps, tips, acrylic overlays, shellac, gel polish, and salon business skills. Each prepares students for the state board exam. Instructor programs train people to teach cosmetology, and Limited Specialist Instructor programs cover esthetics and nail technology. A two-year, off-campus cosmetology course is also offered to Lapeer County high school students through Ed-Tech.
Instruction combines a digital learning platform, hands-on practice, and teacher-led lessons. Classes are kept small so instructors can spend more one-on-one time with each student. Cosmetology students begin on mannequins and esthetics students on face mannequins, while nail students start on a nail trainer hand. Once the fundamentals are complete, students work with guests in the student salon under supervision.
Every service visit starts with a consultation among the instructor, the student, and the client, where the service and final price are discussed. Posted prices are starting amounts and may change without notice. Prospective students can book a one-hour school tour or enrollment meeting online, and the front office is open weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Published total program costs are $17,185.24 for cosmetology, $8,934.89 for esthetics, and $7,376.75 for nail technology, subject to change. The school says it works to keep tuition affordable and describes its instructors as having helped students build beauty careers for more than four decades.
Combines a digital learning platform, hands-on practice, and direct teacher instruction, with small classes so students get more individual attention.
