GlisteningLocks opened in Maryland in 2020 and is operated by GlisteningLocks, LLC. Its owner, Kristany Niblack, started the business after moving to Maryland to begin work as a loctician under mentorship. The business says it has completed thousands of natural hair care services since it opened.

Sisterlocks are the core of the studio. New clients start with a consultation for $40, and that fee is included in the installation deposit if they go ahead. Transfer clients who already wear Sisterlocks get a free consultation that includes a look at their existing locks, and repairs there may take longer and cost more. Installation pricing depends on hair length and density, and a final quote follows an in-person consultation.

The installation itself uses a precision parting grid and a specialized tool to form about 400 small locks, with no waxes, jells, creams or extensions. Clients need natural, unprocessed hair, which can start at about 1 1/2 inches, and no chemical treatments on the day of consultation. The initial locking session runs at least 12 to 16 hours and is often spread over several days. Sisterlocks can be removed during the first six months of development.

Booking works on a first-come, first-served basis, and consultations require a debit or credit card on file. Other payment methods such as Zelle, PayPal or Cash App can be arranged by contacting the studio. A non-refundable deposit of at least $200 secures installation dates, and installations are not discounted. A $40 no-show fee applies to missed appointments or cancellations made within 48 hours without notice. The studio sanitizes the workspace and cleans the booth before each client arrives, and it reserves the right to photograph work for demonstration purposes.

The business also sells products online. Orders ship free within the US in one to two business days with tracking sent by email, but shop products cannot be returned, and refunds are only given for lost shipments.
