Frank Perrelli and Kirsten opened Ginger Root Hair Salon in 1999 and have built it into a full-service salon in historic downtown St. Charles. The salon aims to cater to each client's individual needs, and it describes its staff as talented, skilled and experienced.

The menu covers haircuts for men, women and children, special occasion styles, updos, and blow dries. Other hair services include thermal straightening, hair extensions, perming and a Brazilian Blowout treatment. Waxing covers brows, lip and chin, and facial waxing is also offered. Makeup is available, and the salon sells hair care products and makeup.

Image consulting is a separate offering: a Closet Wardrobe Edit, men's or women's color analysis, and a complete personal styling experience. Prices on the website are base prices and may vary, so the salon asks clients to contact it for exact pricing. Individual stylist pricing is available on request.

Clients are offered a beverage on arrival, and the salon describes its atmosphere as comfortable and friendly. A credit card number is needed to hold an appointment, and 24 hours' cancellation notice is required or the card is charged. Bridal hair and makeup begins with a consultation and needs two weeks' cancellation notice. The salon is open Tuesday and Thursday until 9 pm, Friday until 7 pm and Saturday until 4 pm, and it is closed on Mondays.
