Antonio Favaro opened Fuga in 2004 after working in the Rome hair scene from 1986, in New York, Milan and London, and running a salon in Modena. According to the salon, it has been a neighborhood fixture in Lakeview for more than 20 years, and its stated mission is to bring an Italian approach to style and service to the Midwest. The team includes stylists, colorists, an esthetician and a nail technician, and some of them have been there since the early years.

Hair is the core of the menu, covering cuts, color from single process through balayage, blowdries, keratin treatments, perms, updos and extensions. Haircut and color prices include a blowdry, and a Blowdry Club membership covers up to four blowdries a month. The spa side offers facials with YON-KA skincare, massage, manicures, pedicures, waxing and makeup application, and makeup is by appointment only.

Planning ahead helps. Online bookings need a 50% deposit and can be made as little as two hours in advance, while hair services with Antonio and massage bookings go through phone or email with reception. It also hosts bachelorette parties, bridal parties and other private events, which require a credit card.

Built around Italian-influenced cutting and color, with new trends and techniques brought in from colleagues in Italy and ongoing monthly education through Accademia Fuga.
