Fortune Wigs Brooklyn Salon
Hair salon in Brooklyn, NY · 2 locations
Esther Tobias started Fortune Wigs in 1998, after she made a wig herself because she could not find a natural-looking one at a price she thought was fair. The business is still family-run. It has two salons, in Brooklyn and Lakewood, and an online store, and the salons have been washing, setting and repairing wigs since the company's early years.

Visits are by appointment. Each piece is fitted, cut and finished in person by a senior stylist for the person who will wear it. Clients who live outside the area can send repairs and wash-and-style work by mail. Starting a repair request costs nothing; the salon emails an estimate and a shipping label invoice, and quotes the work only after it has seen the piece.
Online, the store sells wigs and toppers in several lines, from Mazali and Tuni by Mazali to the one-of-a-kind Fortune Collection, which is shown only in the salons by appointment. Free phone consultations with the online team take about fifteen minutes and need no preparation, and clients can have as many as they need before deciding. In-person consultations are also free and clients may bring someone along. Pieces that have been cut, styled or colored in the salon cannot be refunded, though style adjustments may be made where possible.
The business says its aim is for every client to leave feeling like themselves, and that each piece is fitted and finished in person for the wearer.
