The academy is run as a nonprofit and pairs its education programs with a salon. Its stated mission is to make natural hair and dreadlock courses accessible to anyone who wants to learn, and it says it encourages self-acceptance and an appreciation of cultural roots in natural hair.

Education is the core of the business. The basic loc course runs one week and costs 1,050 dollars, or 1,250 dollars with the course kit. The advanced course, for people with experience, covers loc extensions, loc repairs, making locs, and reconstruction with handmade human hair locs, and costs 1,750 dollars for one week. A three-day styling course is 650 dollars. Morning courses run weekdays from 9:30am to noon, with a lunch closure from noon to 1pm, and evening courses run weekdays from 1 to 4pm. Weekend sessions are by appointment only. Students receive a certificate of completion or a certificate of achievement when they finish.

The salon offers loc maintenance that uses palm-rolling to tighten roots and new growth at the scalp. Prices depend on whether the client is new or existing, how long since the last visit, and the location, and most maintenance visits include a wash. Services are done without wax and without gels. Lower-priced student work maintenance and retightening are performed by trained students at 70 dollars. Program completers may be offered a job placement within the academy's salon.

Booking requires a deposit that goes toward the appointment, and deposits are non-refundable. Cancelling at least 24 hours ahead carries no charge, while cancelling later forfeits the deposit. A deposit on a rescheduled appointment carries over to the next one. Loc reattachment requires a consultation with the loctician and half a deposit before booking. Micro loc extensions need a consultation first. Loc repairs have a 550-dollar minimum, or 10 dollars per loc over 15 locs, and repair appointments are not offered for 1 to 5 locs.

The academy is education-first, with a nonprofit mission to make natural hair and dreadlock learning accessible. Locs are maintained by palm-rolling or the interlocking method, and services are performed without wax or gels.
