Alexandra Lugo founded Filament Hair Salon in 2015 in the East Village. The salon's focus is on curly, wavy and every other hair texture, and each service is adjusted to the client's hair type and desired style.
Training behind the salon's approach came from DevaCurl Academy in New York City, the Llongueras Institute in Barcelona, and a program with Joss Claude and BeLLVeR in Mexico City, plus the Aveda Institute in New York City. Stylists cut hair while it is dry and in its natural drape, instead of cutting it wet and pulled straight.
It includes washing, conditioning and styling in the hair's natural texture and takes roughly one and a half to two hours. Pricing runs from $85 to $125 depending on length and amount of hair, and extremely knotted hair may carry an extra fee.
Color work covers toner, single process root touch-ups, partial and full highlights, balayage, Pintura highlights and color correction. Permanent color is AVEDA vegan formula, and fantasy colors use Alfaparf Revolution. Color prices depend on length and amount of hair, and styling is not included with color.
