Eye care starts with a routine exam for adults of all ages. The exam includes a visual acuity test, an eye pressure measurement using numbing drops, and an assessment of eye health. Depending on age and eye health, a retinal exam or a color vision test may be added. Before the exam, patients are asked about their medical history, current medications, past vision problems and any previous eye surgery. How often exams are needed depends on age and medical history; people with diabetic retinopathy are advised to be assessed once a year. The practice also prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses and diagnoses and treats glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, dry eyes, allergic conjunctivitis and macular degeneration.
Surgical services include cataract surgery, pterygium removal, and functional blepharoplasty with ptosis correction, which is aimed at improving peripheral vision. Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper lids, lower lids or both. Recovery typically takes one to three weeks, with most patients back at work about 10 to 14 days after surgery. The aesthetic side of the practice includes BOTOX Cosmetic, which temporarily softens wrinkles between the eyebrows and around the eyes.
