Ellis Hair Salon operates two locations: 1420 W. Lake St in Roselle and 1104 W Devon Ave in Elk Grove Village. Its specialty is Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) hair extensions. Danielle K. White, of DKW Styling in Laguna Beach, California, originated the NBR technique. According to the salon, NBR is unique and the best hair extension method on the market.

NBR attaches extensions to natural hair with a foundation of beads and string, with about 20 to 25 beads in a full set. No glues, adhesives, tape or chemicals are used, and removal takes about five minutes or less. The method is best suited to hair that is ideally shoulder length, with the top layer reaching at least the cheekbone.

New clients complete an application form and take a free consultation. A $500 nonrefundable deposit holds a first appointment, and the remaining balance is paid on install day. First-time pricing covers the extensions, seamless color blended across natural and extension hair, and the cut and style. First-time clients take home a homecare set of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and a wet brush.

Returning clients are re-tightened every six to eight weeks and have their extensions replaced with new hair every six to eight months. Hair typically lasts four to six months with recommended care and adjustments in between. A tighten and color touch-up ranges from $175 to $600 depending on the number of rows and the color. Color correction, length and texture can each add a charge.
