EIGHT SIX ZERO

Eight Six Zero took shape as an idea in 2016 and opened in 2020. The name comes from the house number of the owner's childhood home. Owner Payten Silva had just finished cosmetology school when the concept was first formed, and she now works at the salon alongside a team of independent stylists.

The salon operates on a rental model: each specialist runs their own business, sets their own prices, schedules and means of contact, and rents space to work. The salon describes its culture as warm, supportive and collaborative, and its space as creative, stylish and aesthetic-driven. Its stated goal is for clients to feel polished and luxurious without feeling stiff, and to have a place to unwind. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and the salon is closed Sundays. Free parking is available in the lot across the street, between Railroad Ave and E Abbey Street.

Weft extensions are strips sewn into beads that attach to the hair; the salon describes them as suited to fast, full volume and length and to big transformations. Weft pricing starts at $1,995 for an 18-inch, one-row install and reaches $2,950 for 22-inch, three rows. Keratin bond extensions are individual strands sealed with keratin bonds that blend with natural hair, which the salon describes as discreet, flexible and long-lasting. Partial keratin bond installs start at $425 and full installs start at $1,500.

After an extension install, the salon advises waiting at least 48 hours before washing or heavy styling. It recommends sulfate-free shampoo, a heat protectant and medium heat settings, and sleeping with the hair dry and loosely tied, on a silk or satin pillowcase or bonnet. Regular maintenance appointments are recommended. Event and wedding hair is arranged directly with the bridal stylists rather than through the salon booking. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice; later cancellations are charged 50% of the booked service, and no-shows are charged in full. Arriving 15 minutes or more late may lead to a rescheduled or shortened appointment at the stylist's discretion. Every service carries a 7-day guarantee, but the salon does not give cash or card refunds.
