DUMBO Wellness

The space is also available for therapy rental, and two independent practitioners, a sports massage practice and an acupuncture practice, operate from the same studio.

Each visit starts with a conversation. For a Custom Massage, the therapist asks about the reasons for the massage, past injuries, current health situations and what the client wants from the session. A health history form must be completed before the first session, and at a first visit the therapist may ask general questions about the areas to work on and carry out assessments.

During the session the client is covered with a sheet, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. Undressing is optional, so clients may undress fully or keep their underwear on, and the therapist steps out for privacy. Clients can change position or ask for the technique to be adjusted at any time. Loose, comfortable clothing is worn for Shiatsu, 5 Element and Craniosacral sessions, while Thai Massage and 5 Element Massage are done clothed on a table or the floor as described.

Custom Massage is the basic session. It blends techniques chosen for the client's concerns from a wide menu that includes Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, sports work, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, medical massage, cupping, craniosacral therapy, 5 Element theory, reflexology, lymphatic drainage and visceral manipulation. All therapists can provide Swedish and deep tissue massage.

Single sessions cost $180 for 60 minutes, $220 for 75 minutes and $240 for 90 minutes. Series of five 60-minute sessions cost $875 and series of ten cost $1,700, with 75- and 90-minute series priced higher. Series expire after two years and can be shared with a partner or friend. Final prices include online scheduling fees, credit card fees and sales tax, and the convenience fee is not refundable. Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, otherwise 60% of the session fee is charged.

The monthly membership prepays one session each month at discounted member rates, with approximately $165 for 60 minutes, $195 for 75 minutes and $215 for 90 minutes. Unused sessions roll over to the next month and expire after three months. Memberships require a three-month minimum, can be canceled after that, cannot be shared, but members can bring a friend at the member price three times a year.

Health guidelines apply. The studio does not see clients who have a fever, sore throat, cold or flu symptoms. Massage may be inappropriate for some medical conditions, and therapists may ask for a doctor's recommendation or approval. Postnatal clients after a C-section are seen only after six weeks and once cleared for exercise.

Sessions are built around each client's wellness goals and adjusted during the visit.
