Dread Vibez is a small studio that Zarah runs from part of her home in a residential neighborhood of Aurora. Visits are by appointment only, with no drop-ins, and directions are sent by text after booking.

The studio starts new dreadlocks in the client's own hair, with human hair added to build length where wanted. Other work includes maintenance, crochet re-twists, partial dreadlocks, peekaboo and partial extender services, and make-overs that extend, combine or reattach locs. Temporary installs use synthetic or human hair braided in as extensions and run for roughly 6 to 12 weeks, with locks either brought by the client or bought from the studio. Custom synthetic and custom human hair dreadlock extensions are also made.

Locking is done with the Seienstyle technique, which uses a comb, an optional nylon string and a crochet hook, or with a non-invasive crochet method aimed at locs that mature faster without damage. The crochet method is chosen in conversation before work begins. Locks started this way can be combed out later if a client changes their mind.

Pricing is hourly. The minimum charge is one hour at $100, and time after that is rounded to the nearest 15 minutes at $25 per block. Dreadlock service is $100 per hour and covers root maintenance, body work, repairs and corrections; including human hair is $130 per hour. Maintenance and temporary installs are $100 per hour, and make-over, extending and other work is $130 per hour. A $50 consultation is non-refundable but counts toward the service if the client books. Service appointments require a $100 non-refundable deposit that goes toward the total. Estimates are provided after the online consultation form is completed. Pets should be left at home, as the studio has resident dogs; service animals are welcome.
