Desert Rose

Desert Rose opened in April 2024 on West Main Street in downtown Somerville. The salon describes itself as a top hair salon in the town, and it presents its team as passionate, educated and highly trained.

Visits start with a consultation. Each appointment begins with a conversation about the client's goals, hair history and the feel they want. Clients can also book a free online consultation to be matched with a stylist and service. Color services include a personalized consultation, and a professional blowout with a junior stylist is included with every color service.

The menu covers blonding and balayage, all-over color, root touch-ups and gray coverage, haircuts for all textures and styles, hair extensions for length and volume, and styling for events, updos and curls. Hair treatments meant to repair, hydrate and strengthen can be added to any service. Color services use L'Oréal Professionnel, Redken and Oribe color lines.

The salon has no private lot. Street parking is available nearby, and the paid lot behind the salon at 65 W Main Street is the suggested option for more reliable parking. Appointment hours are Tuesday to Thursday 10 AM to 8 PM, Friday 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM, with Sunday and Monday closed. Phone and text bookings go to (908) 280-1243. Prices listed are starting prices and can change with hair density, length, product use or services discussed at consultation, and a $7 salon service fee applies to all transactions.

Reservations require a credit card kept on file. Cancellations with 48 or more hours' notice are not charged. Shorter notice can bring a fee of 50% of the scheduled service, and cancellations under 24 hours or no-shows may be charged up to 90%. Arriving more than 10 minutes late may mean the service is adjusted or rescheduled. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and cash are accepted, and tips can be paid by cash, Venmo or Zelle. Children may come along only when they are also booked for a service.
