DeRiah first opened in 1996 as a studio in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Owner Shelley Szypszak started it as a place where artists could have a comfortable space to develop their work. After about 15 years in Cedarburg, during which she trained more than 100 employees, she partnered with Rachel Kernan to bring the salon to Mequon, at 10526 North Port Washington Road.

The salon describes itself as a collective of beauty artists and innovators that offers services, education and curated goods. Its stated purpose is to encourage creativity and self expression through hair and beauty techniques. The salon says it was named Milwaukee Magazine's Top Trendsetting Hair Salon, and it describes its designers as highly acclaimed.

Hair services run from women's and men's cuts and blow-dry styling to color work, including balayage, highlights, gloss and color balance, plus Bombshell hand-tied extensions and texture treatments such as QIQI, keratin and Brazilian blowouts. Several of these, including corrective color, Vivid custom color and texture services, require a consultation before booking, and some need a deposit. Coloring services do not include blow-dry and style.

Skin services are performed by licensed estheticians and include HydraFacials, Hydropeptide Power Facials, PCA peels, dermaplaning, facial options for specific concerns, and Celluma LED therapy as a single session, a series of six, or an add-on. Manicures and pedicures use Côte d'Azur products, with salt scrubs available. Waxing clients are asked not to shave for four to six weeks beforehand so hair is at least a quarter inch long, to tell the salon about any oral or topical medications, and to avoid sun exposure for 24 hours before and after.

Appointments can be booked online, and the salon is open Tuesday through Thursday 10am to 8pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, and Saturday 8am to 3pm, closed Sunday and Monday. The phone number is 262.241.8899.
