Curly Hair Alchemist

Curly Hair Alchemist works with one client at a time in a suite at My Salon Suites in Valrico. Appointments are private, so guests are asked not to bring extra people, with the exception of a parent or guardian with a teen. The salon operates in the Brandon and Tampa area and is run by owner and curl artist Meg Conkling.

Every visit starts with a digital consultation, where the stylist reviews photos along with the client's routine and goals before the appointment. Services are grouped under the Curl Menu, from a dry curl haircut with shaping and minimal refreshing for returning clients, to longer sessions that add a mineral detox for hard-water buildup, shampoo and conditioning, steam hydration, and customized styling and diffusing. The fuller sessions also include scalp care and step-by-step home care guidance. A talk-first consultation is available for anyone undecided about booking.

Clients are asked to arrive with hair washed, conditioned, styled with one product, fully dry, detangled and worn down. Prices depend on hair density, length and the time required, and any adjustment is discussed before the service begins. Teen Curl Cuts are offered for ages 13 to 17 and include education for both the teen and the accompanying parent or guardian. Haircuts are not offered for children 12 and under.

The salon states it has more than 405 five-star Google reviews and promotes its owner as a curl specialist for the Tampa Bay area. Clients receive 15% off in-salon retail products. Changes and cancellations must be made through the online booking account, since texts, emails and calls do not change an appointment. Cancellations, reschedules and no-shows within 48 hours of an appointment carry a 50% service fee.
