The DevaCut technique was developed at the Devachan Salon in New York City. The business says most stylists have not been trained in cutting naturally curly hair, and that gap is a large part of why this method is its focus. The aim of the cut is for each curl to look its best, rather than working against its natural shape.

The cut itself is done on dry hair with little or no tension on the curls. Shampoo and conditioner follow, and the finish is a diffuser style. Services are grouped for women, teens, girls aged 6 to 10, and men, so clients can book the visit that fits their hair and age.
