About

Crystal Float & Wellness Spa is in Tooele, Utah. Its float tanks are fiberglass enclosures roughly 8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. The water is heated to about skin temperature, around 94 to 95 degrees F, and holds roughly 800 to 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt, a density that keeps floaters buoyant. The featured float pod is the Dreampod.

A visit starts with a required shower. Each tank is soundproof and lightproof, and it has an air circulation system that brings in fresh air; the tank is not airtight. Floaters may wear earplugs, and some tanks have underwater speakers playing gentle music. Guests can keep the door open or leave the tank at any time. Most people float without clothing, and a bathing cap may be worn, though it may not keep hair fully dry. The water is filtered after each session and sterilized with ultraviolet light. Staff instruct floaters and maintain the equipment.

Beyond floating, the spa offers halo salt therapy, which involves inhaling salt particles, for $20 for 15 minutes or $35 for 30 minutes. Hydro massage lounge chairs have a touchscreen for adjusting the massage in real time and are priced the same way. Infrared sauna sessions, which use infrared light experienced as heat, cost $35 for 30 minutes or $65 for 60 minutes. The home page lists $20 for 15 minutes covering the sauna, massage chairs, halo therapy and the oxygen bar. A 60-minute single float is $65.

Gift cards can be bought online, and the spa lists packages and memberships, with visitors invited to ask about membership options. Hours are Monday 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is closed Wednesday and Sunday.

The business says its featured float pods have been ranked first among consumer commercial isolation tanks, and it describes floating as a newer wellness concept. It also says floating may help ease muscle tension and reduce inflammation, and lists better sleep, stress relief and relief from arthritis and migraine pain among the benefits it claims. These are the business's own claims, not established outcomes. Floating is not recommended for people with uncontrolled epilepsy, people under the influence of alcohol or drugs, people with infectious diseases, or people with open skin wounds. Pregnant women are advised to check with a physician or midwife first.

The spa describes floating as a way to relax and recharge body and mind.

Float tanks are soundproof and lightproof, so each session is quiet and dark.
