Cosmotek College was established in 2001 and operates as a private postsecondary school. The school describes itself as one of the oldest postsecondary institutions in Northern California and says it has been in the beauty industry for over 25 years.
Students can study fully on campus or through a hybrid or instructor-led distance format, depending on the program. Cosmetology and hairstyling have no prerequisites and start weekly on Mondays. Barbering and esthetics also have no prerequisites, and none of the main beauty programs require an internship or externship. Massage therapy has no prerequisites and announces class start dates monthly. Practical salon work is performed on campus under the supervision of a qualified educator, while online study covers the theory hours.
The cosmetology program is 1000 hours and follows California Department of Barbering and Cosmetology requirements. Graduates must pass a state examination to obtain the cosmetology license, which is required to practice as a cosmetologist in California. The hairstyling program is 600 hours and the barbering program is 1000 clock hours, split into health and safety, chemical services, cutting and styling, shaving and beard work, and advanced techniques with salon business. The esthetics program is 600 clock hours covering skin care, facial techniques, hair removal, and lash and brow work.
Cosmetology and esthetics students can take advanced training in hydra glow facials, full body waxing, lash extensions, makeup artistry, and lash and brow lifts with henna tint at no extra charge. The school describes its curriculum as including specialty programs that few beauty schools offer. Students also receive customized kits, and the school says it has relationships with industry brands that create networking opportunities. Scholarships, financial aid and flexible schedules are offered, and clients aged 62 and older receive 10% off all services performed by students. Tours run Monday through Saturday and can be booked by text or an online form.
Students practice industry skills in a salon-simulated setting, with theory taught alongside rotating hands-on work under licensed instructors, and the school sets high expectations while emphasizing collaboration and communication.
The school describes its facility as modern and spacious.
