Constilo Academy

Constilo Academy trains students for licensed careers in barbering and cosmetology. The school describes its goal as preparing students to pass the state board examination and to find employment in the field they choose. Its programs are built around both classroom instruction and hands-on practice, with demonstrations, guided instruction and supervised training designed to resemble a working barbershop or salon.

The barbering program is 1000 hours of training. Coursework covers haircutting, styling, shaving, beard shaping and trimming, hair and scalp treatments, client consultation, and sanitation and safety, and includes straight-razor shaving and fading. The cosmetology program is also 1000 hours and covers hair design, hair color and chemical services, skincare and facial treatments, waxing, professional makeup, manicure techniques, and client experience.

Students can choose a full-time or part-time schedule in either program. Full-time barbering runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm and takes about 7 months; part-time barbering runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 12:30pm and takes about 12 months. Full-time cosmetology runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm and takes about 9 months; part-time cosmetology runs Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 12:30pm and takes about 12 months. Part-time students can also arrange flexible weekday scheduling.

The school's own figures list barbering tuition at $3,000 for its 10-hour tuition package and cosmetology tuition at $13,000 for its 13-hour package. Additional costs include a kit, course materials, a uniform, a state board application fee and a registration fee. According to the school, the all-in totals are $13,098.51 for barbering and $16,107.02 for cosmetology. In-house financing is available directly through the school, and prospective students can schedule a tour of the academy.

The student clinic is open to the public by appointment only and offers haircuts, hair color, hair treatments, styling, perms and relaxers, manicures, beard trims, shaves, beard color, facials, waxing and makeup. Services are performed by students under the supervision of licensed instructors. The school says clinic prices are lower than those at traditional salons.

Programs pair classroom instruction with hands-on practice in a setting meant to simulate a barbershop or salon. The school says its instructors guide students through training with the aim of preparing them for careers.
