Columbus Proper Hair Studio brings together independent hairstylists from the Columbus area in a booth rental setting at West Fifth Avenue. The studio aims for a luxury-feeling experience in a relaxed setting, where clients feel pampered and the stylists have room to grow their talent.

The studio was started by two founders, Bailee Bryant Coleman and Jessica VanTilburg, who met in 2013 at cosmetology school. Both first assisted at separate commission salons before opening their own brands in loft-style settings, and the studio grew from that background.

Each stylist runs their own menu, so services, times and prices differ from one chair to the next. Several stylists offer a version of the Proper Blonde, a full highlight service with balayage and custom toner, and the studio also offers color correction, extension maintenance, K18 treatments and a range of root and gloss refreshes between larger appointments.

Built to help independent stylists develop their own work, with clients meant to feel well looked after from booking through the visit.

The setting is relaxed, with a luxury-salon feel, in a loft-style space.
