About

Co-founders Supriya Malhotra and Vaida Domeikyte launched Champi from a joint concept. Its approach draws on Ayurveda and places the head, scalp and neck at the center of restoring equilibrium. According to the business, its name traces back to what it believes is the source of the English word "shampoo."

Every visit is a head-focused ritual rather than a haircut or color service. Rituals range from a dry head massage with no oil to longer sessions that combine a seated head massage, scalp stimulation, pressure point work, a hot towel, an eye mask and a shampoo and blow-dry. Clients choose their oil or aroma oil when they book, and extras such as a shoulder massage, more massage time or aromatherapy oils can be added.

Oils used in the rituals include coconut, argan, sesame and jojoba, sometimes blended with essential oils. The Royal ritual offers a choice from the Champi Four aromatherapy blends (Calm, Restore, Refresh or Renew), and the Luxury Hair Spa ritual uses premium L'Oreal Professional or Kevin Murphy shampoo and mask.

The business recommends at least one session per week for the best results. The rituals are offered for relaxation only and are not medical treatment.

Before a first visit, clients complete a client waiver, which covers future visits until the client cancels it in writing. A parent or guardian signs the waiver for clients under 18. Gift cards are sent by email in amounts from $25 to $500 or can be bought in person at the studio, and they never expire; any remaining balance carries over.

Rooted in Ayurveda, the work treats the head, scalp and neck as a starting point for balance, using Ayurvedic oils and head massage techniques.

The studio is described as calm and welcoming.
