Ruthie, a licensed esthetician, founded Centered Aesthetics in 2021 after four years working in a salon. The studio sits just off Broadway, and clients come from Grand Lake, Temescal, Rockridge, Emeryville, San Leandro and Berkeley.

About

Brazilian waxing can remove all of the hair or leave a strip or a shape, and the choice is the client's. The studio trims as needed, so clients do not need to trim beforehand. Custom shaping, trimming or clipper work falls outside the standard Brazilian and costs about five times as much. Clients who are on their period can ask for gentle adjustments if they let staff know ahead of time.

Brow appointments begin with a consultation and mapping of the brow shape. Waxing is finished with tweezing for detail. The studio also offers brow tinting, which lasts up to four weeks, and brow lamination, which can be combined with wax and a custom tint in a single service called Brows that Wow.

The studio runs wax training for estheticians. Brazilian wax training is beginner-friendly, needs no prior experience, and takes four hours with three models for $999, with a six-month bootcamp available for $2,499 total. Manzilian training costs $1,199 for five hours with three models. A combined labia Brazilian and penis Manzilian course costs $1,999, and full body training costs $899. Trainees practice on live models with demos, Q&A and one-on-one coaching, and receive a certificate of completion.

Services are tailored to each client's comfort, hair type and goals, and body waxing is designed to be thorough, efficient and comfortable, including for first-timers.
