Catalina Island Health Fitness & Physical Therapy

Catalina Island Health is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that has provided medical care on the island since 1958. A self-perpetuating board of directors owns and runs it through Avalon Medical Development Corporation. The organization reports about 120 employees and serves roughly 4,000 residents along with more than one million visitors each year. It describes itself as Avalon's only hospital.

The main hospital and clinic are on Falls Canyon Road. Outpatient physical and occupational therapy and a fitness center are in the Atwater Arcade on Sumner Avenue. The wider system includes acute care, swing beds and skilled long-term care, mental health services, and social services help with insurance applications, transportation and other benefits.

The MedSpa is administered by the organization's medical staff. Its menu covers Botox, the Botox Lip Flip for the upper lip, dermal fillers from Revanesse and Juvederm, and IV hydration therapy. Free consultations are offered before Botox and filler treatments. Some MedSpa services may be covered under HSA plans, so clients should check with their plan. For parties of two or more, medical staff can bring treatment to a home, hotel room, vacation rental, yacht or event, with a $50 per person surcharge and advance notice. The emergency department is staffed around the clock by a UC Irvine emergency medicine physician and a nurse, and it evaluates and treats nearly 2,500 cases a year. The organization has worked with UC Irvine since 2016, and that collaboration became a clinical affiliation between CI Health and UCI Health in 2023. According to the organization, Press Ganey recognized its clinic and emergency department with the HX Guardian of Excellence Award for patient experience in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
