Cartoon Cuts

Cartoon Cuts was founded in 1991 by a parent and is described as a family-owned business. It now operates three salons: Congressional Plaza in Rockville, Maryland, Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia, and Springfield Mall in Springfield, Virginia. The salon says it has completed more than 7 million haircuts.

The salons are designed with children in mind, with kid-focused details throughout. Children can have a movie playing during their haircut, and the hair wash is elephant-themed. Support is available for children with special sensory needs during their cut.

Appointments can be booked online or clients can walk in; the salon does not take bookings by phone. Each child is scheduled for a 30-minute appointment, and booking more than one appointment for the same child cancels all of them. Appointments that can't be kept should be cancelled through the online Book Now portal, and clients are asked to arrive no more than five minutes early or late. Prices may vary by market.

Baby's First Haircut includes a first haircut certificate and a keepsake lock of hair. Dad & Me and Mom & Me haircuts are each listed at $5 savings. Loyalty options include a 6-for-5 program, where five haircuts are paid in advance and a sixth is free, and the Cheaper by the Dozen program, which makes the 12th haircut free.

Beyond the salons, the business supports several causes. It partners with Hair Aid to train people in Southeast Asia in basic haircutting so they can start micro-businesses, and two Cartoon Cuts stylists have traveled to Southeast Asia to teach villagers. It donates $5.00 for every haircut on the day of the annual Hair Aid Global Cut-A-Thon. It has built a school in Guatemala for Pencils of Promise, donates to Ellie's Hats to send hats to kids with cancer, and supports Autism Speaks through its Light it Up Blue campaign. The salon says it helps Ellie's Hats fight childhood cancer.

The salon also sells Original Sprout products with tea tree and lavender components and Fairy Tales products, both listed for lice prevention, and publishes a Lice 101 guide covering head lice, prevention, and checking whether a treatment has worked.
