Canvas Salon & Gallery was founded by Jaime Brawdy Duchscherer, who runs the salon as founder, educator and owner and is also co-owner of the sister business Polished Nail Bar of WNY. Jaime stepped back from working behind the chair to focus on education and mentoring, and oversees the development of every stylist at the salon, each of whom is personally mentored and trained by Jaime. The salon describes its team as small and focused only on hair, and says it aims to make guests feel like family. It also describes itself as a hybrid salon that supports stylist careers, with booth rental, commission, rental-track and assisting arrangements.

About

The space is cozy and welcoming. A large color bar sits alongside indoor and outdoor seating, a beauty boutique, and a rotating gallery; the salon has shown local art for more than ten years and holds quarterly exhibits, with the artwork available to buy (all art is final sale). Guests can expect complimentary treats and drinks, including locally made teas, coffee and sparkling beverages, plus wifi and a charging station. Parking is on site, with entrances from Goodrich Rd. and Main St. The salon is open Monday from noon to 7 pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, and is closed Sundays. Hair services are booked by appointment, though walk-ins are welcome.

New guests are offered a complimentary consultation by phone, text or in person, usually about half an hour, and are asked to book a short consultation with their stylist before a first visit. Guests are asked to arrive five minutes early and to avoid turtlenecks and bulky layers during service. Robes are provided for color guests during processing. Color and additional mixing are priced by the weighed amount of product, measured with a system that calculates exact amounts, and prices can shift with hair type or corrective needs. Transformative color is priced per hour plus product, at a higher rate for advanced corrective work, and requires a New Guest Consultation first. Individual stylists ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule; later cancellations are charged half the service total and no-shows the full total. Haircare and cosmetics are non-refundable, and any refund the salon chooses to give comes as a gift card for retail purchases.

Extension work includes installation, full reinstalls and removal in one, two or three rows, and new guests can book a complimentary extension consultation before hair is ordered and appointments are set. Removal includes a haircut, scalp facial and blowout, and removed extensions are kept for deep cleaning and can be picked up within a week. Bridal hair and makeup, including a trial run and day-of service, can be done at the salon or at an offsite venue, and every bridal booking starts with a bridal consultation; wedding consultations are led by Jaime. Kids' services cover ages 12 and under, and teen services are for guests 13 and older, with parental consent required under 16. Loyalty points are earned on in-house product purchases and can be redeemed toward products, and eGift cards and gift cards in set or custom amounts are sold online. The salon describes itself as Buffalo's premier clean salon for sustainable beauty and botanical hair color.
