Every Sisterlocks client starts with a consultation that looks at hair history, lifestyle, expectations and goals. Installs can be scheduled on weekdays, weekends or both, and usually run one to five days of six to eight hours each, depending on the stylist and hair length. Test locks are done four weeks before a Sisterlocks install unless the client plans to color, and Sisterlocks can begin on relaxed hair with about 1.5 inches of new growth.
Pricing is set by package and lock count. Sisterlocks packages start at $3,000, Microlocks via interlocking for 250 to 450 locks start at $2,000, Microlocks via two strand twist start at $1,200 and via braids at $1,500, and Belle MicroLocks extension prices start at $4,000. A $55 consultation is required for new installs and is prepaid and non-refundable. A non-refundable deposit of about half the install cost is paid at consultation to hold dates, and exact color prices are given at the consultation only. Shampoo for locs is $25 for mature locks and $35 for starter locks, and shampoo bookings with associate stylist Asia are discounted 30 percent.
Retie visits are generally recommended every four to six weeks, depending on growth and loc count. Visits past six weeks carry a $50 fee, rising to $200 for visits at eleven to twelve weeks. Other fees include a $50 slippage fee, a $50 squeeze-in fee for same-day service, a $10 fee to move an appointment and a $100 fee for cancellations within 48 hours. Hair must be shampooed within 24 hours before any service or a $15 fee applies. Transfer clients have a consultation to discuss their goals, which does not count toward the service price, and their locs should be shampooed, separated at the roots, scalp oiled and blow dried before the appointment.
The studio emphasizes education, precision and an individual approach to each client's hair. The salon says its Microlocks are created without harsh chemicals or heat.
