Buff & File was founded in 2014 by co-owners Andree Connell and Alex Sirois and now has a team of 20 or more. The salon describes itself as very busy and says its focus is the health of the natural nail, with a clean, relaxing setting and a wide range of colors and prices.

The downtown location on State Street offers manicures, pedicures, facials, tinting and waxing, and it is the only place offering the Custom Bioelements Facial. The Portsmouth Green location on Lafayette Road offers manicures, pedicures and waxing. Downtown is open Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm; Portsmouth Green is open Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm, and is closed Sunday.

Guests can book online for either location or call. Walk-ins are accepted as time allows, though appointments are recommended. Single-use, sterilized implements are used, pedicure bowls are non-porous and have no jets, and gel lamps use skin-safe LED instead of UV. Polishes are non-toxic, free of formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, camphor, xylene and MEK.

Gel manicures come with a 7-day chip repair, and the Dazzle Dry Detox Pedicure adds an electric file, dry brushing and an Epsom salt soak.

Policies to know: at least 24 hours notice is requested to cancel. Cancellations with less than 2 hours notice or no-shows may be charged the full fee. Clients arriving 10 minutes or more late may have their time shortened or given away and may be charged in full. Gratuity is not included in prices, and a minimum 20 percent gratuity applies to each guest in parties of 5 or more. Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted, but personal checks are not. Products sold in the salon cannot be refunded or exchanged.
