Bryony & Birch Body

Bryony & Birch was created by Katie Cavic, a hair stylist who spent about a decade cutting hair in Boston and Cambridge and rented a booth in Somerville before founding the business. Today it operates The Hair Loft in Amesbury and Bryony Body in Exeter. The business describes itself as a collective built around collaboration among artists in beauty, wellness and art, and says its founding was driven by community.

At The Hair Loft, prices are all-inclusive and depend on appointment length. Packages start at $45 for a 30-minute express service, $70 for 60 minutes, $135 for 90 minutes and $303 for 175 minutes. Each time block is customized, so clients contact the salon for an exact quote and to schedule. The salon carries natural hair products, including brands the owners use themselves. The salon describes its space as full of art. Free street parking is available in front of the Amesbury studio, with a free downtown lot a few blocks away, and the salon is wheelchair accessible from its street-level entrance.

The salon's Cezanne smoothing treatments come in three versions. Express costs $300 and takes 120 minutes, with results that can last up to 8 weeks and a design aimed at color-treated hair. Classic costs $338, takes 135 minutes and has results that can last up to 5 months. Ultimate Blonde costs $375, takes 150 minutes, lasts up to 5 months and includes a blue violet additive to tone hair. Each treatment comes with an 8 oz at-home shampoo and conditioner. The product is formaldehyde-free and free of other aldehydes, and the salon says it suits all hair types. According to the salon, it is hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and can reduce blow-dry time by up to 50 percent.

The Bryony Experience is the wedding program that includes bridal hair styling. It runs for the full year before the wedding and includes wellness and self-care. Pricing and availability for wedding hair are given on request by email or phone.

Bryony Body holds all of its classes at the studio at 175 Water Street in downtown Exeter. Flow classes run from beginner to advanced levels, and Sweat offers private and group interval training. The business has pledged a percentage of all proceeds from the studio to benefit the Zakim Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with the funds intended to help support a wellness program for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
