Brushd is a boutique salon in Holbrook owned by Lorraine Guarino, an Invisible Bead Extensions Platform Artist. The salon describes itself as Long Island's IBE exclusive salon and as offering a premium extensions and lived-in color experience. The space is private and intimate, and the aim is for clients to feel relaxed and at home during their appointment. Amenities include eucalyptus heated neck wraps, lavender eye masks, roasted coffee and signature cocktails, and WiFi is available during appointments.

Extensions are Invisible Bead Extensions, installed without heat, glue or tape and described as tension-free. An install takes roughly two to six hours and can include color on natural hair, custom colored hand-tied extensions, a cut and style on natural hair, a customized cut on the extensions, haircare and a care guide, with installs starting at $1,200. One to three rows of 14 to 18 inch extensions run from $1,250 to $2,650, and 22 inch rows from $1,850 to $3,500. A reinstall removes each row, cleanses and refreshes the natural hair, replaces the extensions and includes full color and a trim, starting at $350. Maintenance visits, which often include color, average between $550 and $1,050.

Color services are built around custom lived-in looks that are meant to last eight to ten weeks between appointments. Refresh, the mini blonding service, starts at $265 and is recommended every six to eight weeks. Renew, a partial balayage package, starts at $325 and is recommended every 12 to 16 weeks. Restore, a full highlight or balayage package, starts at $400 and is recommended every 16 weeks or more. Each color package includes root tapping, glazes, a haircut and a style, and custom color packages start at $350. Color quotes depend on current color and the work needed to reach the goal, and extension quotes depend on rows needed and hair length. Prices also vary with stylist experience, demand, hair density, number of rows and hair goals.

Booking begins with an extensions application covering hair goals, stylist preference, appointment length, pricing and availability, and the salon notes extensions are not for everyone. A phone consultation of about 15 to 20 minutes follows, and an in-person meeting can be arranged on request. A second consultation takes place on the day of the appointment. A $500 retainer is required to book, is non-refundable and counts toward the total, and the remaining balance is due on the day. Clients can ask for Lorraine, Taylor, Toni or no preference. Children and additional guests are not permitted. Hair should be shampooed, blown out and free of tangles and product beforehand, and a reminder is sent at least a day ahead. Cancellations 24 to 48 hours ahead forfeit half the quoted fee, cancellations 24 hours ahead forfeit 75 percent, and same-day cancellations or no-shows forfeit the full fee, with the salon possibly requiring prepayment or declining to rebook. Arriving more than 15 minutes late may lead to rescheduling with the full fee charged. Color results are not guaranteed, and clients are asked to disclose previous chemical treatments before service. The salon states that stylists are certified technicians.
