Brow Ink LA

Brow Ink LA is a permanent makeup salon with two studios, one on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood and one on West Kenneth Road in Glendale. The salon describes itself as a luxury PMU salon known for natural brows and says the experience feels upscale from the moment clients walk in. Its philosophy is that less is more, with the aim of accentuating each client's natural features.

Brow work centers on microblading, which uses a handheld blade of fine needles to place semi-permanent pigment in the dermis; the ink fades over time. Microblading suits normal or dry skin, since oilier skin holds ink less well. For very oily skin, the salon offers ombre or powder brows, a custom powder shading done with a machine, priced at $1,000. Combo brows, priced at $1,100, layer microblading with machine shading for more density and color, and microblading alone is priced at $1,000. Microblading, powder and combo sessions each take about two and a half hours.

Touch-ups with Elle start at $125 and take about an hour and a half or more. They are for clients who have already had an appointment with her. The annual touch-up price is honored for up to three years, after which a new appointment is scheduled. Brows done elsewhere can be considered if clear photos are sent to booking@browinkla.com; approved work is booked as a new appointment. Bookings can also be made by phone at 424-343-7411.

Brow lamination is a temporary perm that sets brow hairs in a brushed-up shape, with an optional tint. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour, lasts around four to eight weeks, and works best when there is enough hair to hold a shape. Body and face sculpting is offered through EndoSculpt, also called Endospheres Therapy, a non-invasive treatment for sculpting and lymphatic drainage. The salon states that it is clinically proven and uses patented compressive microvibration technology. It recommends a series of 12 sessions followed by one to two maintenance sessions a month, and notes that results vary. Face sessions take 45 minutes and body sessions take 60 or 90 minutes. A first-session promotion is $100 for the face and $150 for the body. EndoSculpt is not offered during pregnancy, and the facial is not booked within 30 days of Botox or filler or within 90 days of PDO threads.

The studio also teaches microblading and shading to new and existing PMU artists. A two-day microblading course is $1,950 and a three-day microblading and shading course is $2,950, with a $500 non-refundable deposit and the balance due before the first day. Course kits include blades, a PMU machine, pigments, practice skins and other supplies. An optional fourth day of one-on-one work with Elle on a first client costs $250. Students must complete an online Blood Borne Pathogen course and register with the Public Health Department to work as a microblading artist in California. The salon does not currently offer chair rentals but says it plans to hire artists in the future. Glendale hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Wednesday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with Sunday closed.
